Sonia Delaunay
Robe Mots-Croises 1923
Pochoir
The series of Delaunay's early haute couture designs were reassembled and issued by the artist in 1969 as a hand-coloured pochoir suite entitled “Tableaux Vivants”. The series consisted of 27 pochoir prints(this one being #16.) The rare accordian-style portfolio was published in Milan by Edizione del Naviglio. This is a splendid impression on Aussedat wove paper from a total edition of 650, executed in Paris by the pochoir master Daniel Jacomet. Sonia Delaunay had a passion for costume design and this charming Art Deco piece is one of her abstract figure studies originally conceived in 1923. Elements of Delaunay's hallmark abstract-geometrical style are incorporated here into a semi-figurative composition. Total sheet size H. 11.25in x W. 7.5in; H. 28.5cm x W. 19.0cm.
