Original costume drawing, gouache and metallic paint on heavy paper for the Folies Bergere (Paris, 1919) signed lower right. Created for the Folies Revue "Venice in the 18th Century", acquired by collector and fashion designer Ruben Torres (Nina Ricci, White Stag, Warners,& his own label). Personal commission comments au verso, in Erte's own handwriting. Documentation/verification labels on backboard by Sotheby's (1987) and The McAllen International Museum, Texas, [see P.25 of their exhibition catalog "Erte and His Contemporaries (Costume Designs for the Early Twentieth Century Music Hall in Paris)" 1988]. Erte's love of luxurious detail is shown in his conjuring of this complex dress, and with the black Renaissance "beauty patches" Erte extends theatrical-period authenticity.
