This an original, hand-coloured pochoir from the 1920's publication "Femmes Modernes". A popular theme of the time was the "Lady of Leisure" - on the surface, surrounded by her comforts and indulgencies, she represents the newly liberated woman; but there is also the more subtle message of allure and power in her "come hither" look. Chompre has used the pochoir process to its maximum painterly effect, and his choice of vibrant saturated paints support his depictions of the explosively intense and heady days of the 1920s.
