Georges Lepape
La Toilette
Pochoir
This is a hand coloured, plate-signed pochoir print from the exclusive 1912 Parisian fashion publication Modes et Manieres d'Aujourd'hui (Plate I). One of a series of 12 pochoirs in a seminal work that defined Art Deco. The turban headdress was a trademark of Lepape's close friend and designer-collaborator Paul Poiret; the harem-panted servant and tented fabric typical of the early French Deco style and its fascination with Arabia. The rich gouache paintwork renders a truly 3 dimensional effect. H. 11.0in X W. 7.25in; H. 27.9cm X W. 18.4cm
