Original pen and ink haute couture studio sketch. Initialed in pen by the artist, center, and dated by his hand, 1927. The two coats illustrate Barbier's luxurious ingenuity with fur and unorthodox fabric drapery. The dress, top right, is his interpretation of the lampshade skirt; the bottom right illustrates the girdle-dropped waist, in this instance embroidered. The stacks of bangles on both arms are typical Roaring Twenties panache. The delicate, winsome faces and profiles are classic Barbier. A stunning and rare acquisition for the Barbier collector, on heavy guage, cream, artist's Arches paper. Overall dimensions: H. 11.25in X W. 9.125; H. 28.6cm X W. 23.2cm |
