Hand-coloured, plate-signed pochoir from Falbalas & Fanfreluches - George Barbier's tour de force for his 1924 "Almanac". "Autumne" is part of his "Four Seasons" quatrain. Cupid's influence is evidenced here and love-doves abound. Almost exceptionally the man is given equal billing with his natty new fall outlay, the perfect 20's "Dandy" accompaniment to her coordinated ensemble with her scarf ...and her heartstrings.. floating unfettered in the winds: Barbier at his charming, sentimental best. +++++++
This famous illustrated almanac series was produced from 1922 to 1926 only and depicted high-society life in Paris - the fashion, social and artistic capital of the early inter-war years.
