Original costume design of the Roman Emperor created for the Folies Bergere (Paris, 1925), from the collection of noted fashion designer Ruben Torres (Nina Ricci, White Stag, Warners, & his own label). Documentation labels on the original backboard from the Exhibition at the McAllen International Museum, Texas, [see P.37 of their exhibition catalog "Erte and His Contemporaries - Costume Designs for the Early Twentieth Century Music Hall in Paris (1988)]". Barbier's bold stylized rendering is as powerful and assertive as the character he is portraying. He achieves his effect with watercolour, India Ink and gouache with gold overlay.
