George Barbier
Demoiselle aux Rubans (Young Woman in Ribbons)
Metallic & Gouache on Paper
SOLD
Original costume design created for the Folies Bergere Revue (Paris, 1925), from the collection of noted fashion designer Ruben Torres (Nina Ricci, White Stag, Warners, & his own label). Documentation/verification labels on backboard by Sotheby's (1987) and The McAllen International Museum, Texas, [see P.35 of their exhibition catalog "Erte and His Contemporaries - Costume Designs for the Early Twentieth Century Music Hall in Paris (1988)]". The poised ballerina has just landed into position with all the grace and perfection of the Barbier Diva. Barbier's attention to theatrical detail is once again consummate, right down to the Art-Deco-rage "kiss"-curl along the cheekbone. He knew just how to "feed" his viewer! Bright, saturated colours in india ink, gouache with gold overlay, ink-signed, center right. Dimensions: H.9.72in X W.7.87in; H.24.7cm X W.20.0cm
